South Sea Pearls
South sea pearls are yet another cultured pearl like the Akoya variety. This means that their size and color is more uniform and easier to assemble a large string for a necklace, bracelet, and even to match a pair of pearls more accurately for earrings.
These cultured pearls are from Indonesia, Myanmar, and Australia. The cultivation process involves surgical implants consisting of small beads carved from the shell of a mussel. These beads, or nuclei, become the core of the future pearls. Because they have a spherical base to start from, the chances of misshaped or oblong pearls are severely lessened. This process combined with the rarer nature of the pearl mussel and pearl oyster species means that the cost of south sea pearls is increased over their more common relatives.
South sea pearls make a stunning gift for any occasion. Their uniformity makes it great if you are looking for a matching set for your special someone or even multiple sets in the case of bridesmaids. Just be prepared for a little higher cost if these are the perfect pearls for you.
